You see a result of 4,5 ‰ and judge quickly:
“THE TESTER MUST BE WRONG - I feel quite sober“
After a night of drinking in the early hours:
You get a result of 0,45 ‰ and again judge quickly
“THE TESTER MUST BE WRONG - I feel quite drunk“
BUT THE ALCOHOL TESTER IS NOT WRONG!!
With an actual blood alcohol level of 0,45 ‰ your feeling for your own condition can be utterly different depending on your body constitution and the time of the day.
At 9 pm you might feel quite sober and at 3 at night you feel drunk when it might actually be the other way.
Therefore:
NEVER PUT YOURSELF OR OTHERS AT RISK IF IN DOUBT
IMPACT OF ALCOHOL IN THE HUMAN BODY
Transition of alcohol into body fluids (resorption):
ca. 40-50 % within the first 15 minutes
ca. 65 % within 30 minutes
rest during the first hour
If you had a substantial meal the transition is slowed down
Decomposition of alcohol:
women: ca. 0.08 - 0.10 ‰ per hour
men: ca. 0.10 - 0.15 ‰ per hour
Correct measurement display
If used correctly (without mouth alcohol), the test results are reliable.
To be one the safe side, repeat the tests after 20 minutes, to be sure that the blood alcohol in your body has already started to decompose.
The second test has to result into a lower measurement value.
